Therapy is a tool that's meant to support you and help you feel more grounded in your life, so the process of finding a therapist who accepts your insurance should feel simple. Allswell was created to provide virtual, trauma-informed therapy for LGBTQ+ folks that's affirming and easy to navigate.

If you're a Wellpoint member who lives in Maryland, including those who were previously covered under Amerigroup, you may be able to access Allswell therapy at little to no out-of-pocket cost. We're here to help you understand what to expect and how to get started with Allswell using your Wellpoint plan.

Does Wellpoint Cover Online Therapy?

Yes, Wellpoint covers online therapy for eligible members under Maryland HealthChoice Medicaid rules. For more information about your specific plan, refer to Wellpoint's mental health benefits page.

Is Wellpoint the same as Amerigroup?

Yes. If you have an Amerigroup card or have been searching for therapy that’s covered by Amerigroup, then you're in the right place. What was once Amerigroup has been rebranded to Wellpoint, and is owned by Elevance Health.

The name changed, but your benefits, coverage, provider network, and care remain exactly the same. No action was required from members when the rebrand happened, and if you have an Amerigroup card, it's still valid.

What is Wellpoint?

Wellpoint is one of the managed care organizations authorized by the state of Maryland to provide health care services to Medicaid members. As a Maryland HealthChoice MCO, Wellpoint members typically pay little to nothing for covered services, including therapy.

If your insurance card says "Wellpoint" or "Amerigroup," you're covered under the same plan. For questions about your coverage, you can reach Wellpoint member services at the number on the back of your card.

How Allswell Works With Wellpoint

Allswell aims to make the insurance process as seamless as possible for you. We bill Wellpoint directly, so you don't have to manage claims. Before your first session, our team verifies your benefits and provides a clear estimate of any costs so you're not faced with any surprise fees.

Our approach is what makes Allswell different from other therapy platforms that accept Wellpoint. Every Allswell therapist is vetted for LGBTQ+ competency before joining our practice, and our trauma-informed model was built specifically for queer and trans people. For general questions about your Wellpoint coverage, reach out to their member services team.

Service areas

Allswell is licensed in Washington, DC, Maryland, and Virginia. To receive care with us using your Wellpoint plan, you'll need to be physically located in Maryland at the time of your session. Your therapist will also be licensed in Maryland.

How to check If your Wellpoint plan covers Allswell

Navigating insurance doesn't have to be complicated. To see whether your plan covers Allswell, you can book a consultation and our team can verify. Alternatively, call the member services number on the back of your Wellpoint or Amerigroup card.

What If Wellpoint Doesn't Cover Your Therapy?

If Allswell isn't available under your Wellpoint plan, out-of-network coverage isn't an option the way it is for those with commercial insurance. We'd love to provide care to every LGBTQ+ person who needs it, but not all Medicaid plans include Allswell as an in-network provider.

If Allswell isn't available to you, we recommend contacting your plan directly for in-network provider options or exploring other Maryland HealthChoice managed care organizations in your area, including Aetna Better Health, JAI Medical Systems, Kaiser Permanente, Maryland Physicians Care, MedStar Family Choice, Priority Partners, and United Healthcare.

What Wellpoint Typically Covers at Allswell

Your Wellpoint plan typically covers a few different therapy options through Allswell:

  • Individual therapy
  • Group therapy

LGBTQ+ Affirming Therapy Covered by Wellpoint

Finding affirming therapy can be especially difficult for LGBTQ+ folks, and those with Medicaid often face even further barriers to care. Wellpoint covers your therapy regardless of why you're seeking care. Whether you're working through identity-based trauma, navigating a life transition, or just looking for a therapist who truly understands you, your Wellpoint plan can cover it.

Every Allswell therapist is vetted for LGBTQ+ competency and understands the ways identity, trauma, and everyday life intersect for queer and trans people. For Wellpoint members in Maryland, where affirming in-network providers can be harder to find, that access can make a real difference.

What You'll Pay With Wellpoint

Cost shouldn't be a barrier to finding the supportive, affirming care that you need. Most Wellpoint members pay $0 or a very small copay per session with Allswell.

Regardless of how your care is covered, you'll have access to the same Allswell therapists as everyone else. Medicaid impacts how your insurance is billed, not the quality of care you receive.

How to Start Therapy With Allswell Using Wellpoint

Getting started is the same process for all Allswell clients, and our team handles the insurance side for you.

Step 1: Book a free consultation

Schedule a 15-to-20-minute call with one of our Care Coordinators. You can book through our website, email us at hello@joinallswell.com, or call 443-543-8367. This call is free, and there's no commitment.

Step 2: Verify your coverage

During or after your consultation, our team will verify your insurance benefits and confirm that your plan covers therapy at Allswell. We'll let you know if there are any issues before you schedule your first session.

Step 3: Get matched with a therapist

Based on what you share in your consultation, we'll connect you with a therapist whose experience, approach, and availability fit your needs. Every Allswell therapist is trained in LGBTQ+ affirming, trauma-informed care.

Step 4: Complete your intake

You'll fill out a brief intake through our secure client portal. This helps your therapist prepare for your first conversation.

Step 5: Start therapy

Your first session (your Welcome Session) is 60 minutes. After that, ongoing sessions are 45 minutes, typically on a weekly basis. All sessions happen through secure, HIPAA-compliant video.
