Allswell’s Services in Washington, DC
Allswell works with clients all across Washington, DC, from Capitol Hill and Columbia Heights to Petworth, Anacostia, and every quadrant in between. There are two main ways to work with us, and both are grounded in LGBTQ+ affirming care: individual therapy and support groups.
Online, individual LGBTQ+ therapy
Individual therapy is one-on-one work with a licensed therapist over secure video. It’s a private space to unpack whatever brought you to therapy, figure out what you want to change, and work toward it at a pace that feels manageable.
The first meeting is your Welcome Session, and it lasts 60 minutes. After that, therapy sessions are 45 minutes and are typically on a weekly basis. Every Allswell therapist is trained in affirming, trauma-informed care, so you can show up as yourself from day one.
Online LGBTQ+ support groups
Allswell’s support groups meet for 6 weeks with the same small group each time, led by an Allswell therapist. Each session starts with a short lesson, then opens into conversation and practice. That way, you immediately walk away with skills you can use in real life.
Allswell’s support groups meet online, and our Care Coordinators can tell you what's running right now and whether one of the groups makes sense for your treatment plan.

How Allswell Approaches Care
Here’s what you need to know about our clinical approach:

Affirming care is treated as a clinical requirement.
The American Psychological Association and WPATH recognize affirming care as the professional standard, and at Allswell it's something therapists are screened for in hiring, trained on after, and observed on in ongoing supervision.

Minority stress is treated as a clinical factor.
The strain of discrimination, rejection, and staying guarded adds up, and it’s not in your imagination. Allswell therapists are trained to work with it directly, helping you sort out what's yours to work on from what belongs to the world around you.

Treatment is evidence-based and adapted to your needs.
Approaches like cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) work, but they need adjusting for people whose fears are often grounded in real risk rather than distorted thinking. Allswell therapists are trained to tell the difference.

Trauma care goes further than trauma-informed.
Allswell uses structured, evidence-based trauma treatment. This includes Written Exposure Therapy (WET), which is a fast approach to trauma with strong results and a lower dropout rate than longer approaches. Trauma work is paced carefully and only begins when you're steady enough for it.

Progress is measured, and we adjust your treatment plan accordingly.
Allswell uses validated check-ins at intake and every 60 days, and your therapist reviews the results with you. If something isn't working, that shows up in the data and the approach changes.

Community is part of the treatment.
Loneliness is a real clinical problem in LGBTQ+ life. That’s why at Allswell, group therapy runs alongside individual therapy sessions.
