Paying for Allswell Therapy Without Insurance
Finding a therapist whose approach and values align with your needs can take time, especially for LGBTQ+ folks. Thatβs one of the reasons many people opt to pay out of pocket for therapy.
Allswell offers transparent private pay rates, accepts health savings account (HSA) and flexible spending account (FSA) payments, and can provide superbills for potential out-of-network reimbursement. Hereβs what to expect if you're considering paying out of pocket for therapy with Allswell.
Does Allswell Offer Private Pay Therapy?
You can still work with an Allswell therapist even if you donβt have insurance or your insurance doesnβt cover Allswell.Β
We offer the same level of trauma-informed care to clients paying out of pocket, clients with commercial insurance, and those accessing care through Medicaid. How you pay doesn't change the quality of therapy you receive.
How Much Does Therapy at Allswell Cost?
Our rates are straightforward and transparent, so youβre never faced with surprise fees. Hereβs what you can expect to pay when you work with Allswell:
- Initial intake session (60 minutes): $175
- Ongoing sessions (45 minutes): $125
β
Sessions take place virtually via secure, HIPAA-compliant video through Zoom. Your therapist will tailor their approach to your needs, drawing from a range of evidence-based modalities including cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR), and cognitive processing therapy (CPT).
How Allswell Works With Private Pay Clients
We keep the billing process simple. Payment is processed automatically using the card you have on file through our secure client portal. We accept credit cards as well as health savings account (HSA) and flexible spending account (FSA) cards. If you have out-of-network benefits, Allswell can provide a superbill after each session. You can submit it to your insurance company for potential reimbursement.
If you need to cancel or reschedule an appointment, we ask for at least 24 hours' notice. We do charge a $50 late cancellation fee if notice is given less than 24 hours before your session.
Private Pay for Out-of-Network Care Covered by Insurance
If Allswell is out of network with your insurance plan, you may still be able to get reimbursed for therapy. We can provide a superbill after each session, which is a detailed receipt you submit directly to your insurance company to request out-of-network reimbursement. Coverage and reimbursement amounts vary by plan, so it's worth checking with your insurer before getting started.
Service areas
Allswell is licensed in Washington, DC, Maryland, and Virginia. To receive care with us, you'll need to be physically located in one of these areas at the time of your session, even when paying out of pocket. Your therapist will be licensed in the state where you live.
LGBTQ+ Affirming Therapy
Every Allswell therapist is vetted for LGBTQ+ competency before working with clients. Our trauma-informed model was built specifically for queer and trans people. We understand why many people want to keep certain information off their insurance record, especially when navigating questions of gender, sexuality, or experiences that feel too personal to document through a third party.
For many LGBTQ+ clients, private pay is a deliberate choice. Allswell's approach is affirming and supportive, regardless of how you pay. Your reasons for choosing to pay out of pocket are your own.
